The Israeli Consulate in New York criticized Rama Dawaji, wife of Zaharan Mamdani, for her role in a workshop honoring Mary as a Palestinian woman born under occupation.

The Israeli Consulate in New York issued a statement condemning Rama Dawaji, the wife of New York City Mayor Zaharan Mamdani, following reports of her participation in hosting a workshop supporting Palestinians in Corsica.
According to the consulate's statement, Dawaji, who is of Syrian origin, took part in a Palestinian support workshop where Mary, the mother of Jesus, was honored as a "Palestinian woman who gave birth under occupation."
The consulate accused Dawaji of promoting a "false narrative" against Israel, describing the event as involving historical distortion and a cynical exploitation of the story of Jesus Christ for contemporary political purposes.
The statement further asserted that any attempt to depict Jesus as born to a Palestinian mother or to suggest he was Muslim constitutes, in the consulate's view, a distortion of history and the promotion of a dangerous narrative against Israel.
The consulate declared, "Jesus was a Jew born in the land of Judea to his Jewish mother Mary, and any attempt to portray him as born to a Palestinian mother or to imply he was Muslim is a historical distortion."
Concluding the official statement, the consulate said, "The First Lady of New York City is promoting a false and dangerous narrative against Israel."
