Japan Plans Greenland Visit to Assess Rare Earth Mineral Extraction
Japan is preparing to send a delegation to Greenland this summer to explore opportunities for extracting rare earth minerals, according to a Japanese news agency.

Japan is set to dispatch a delegation to Greenland during the upcoming summer season to evaluate the potential for extracting rare earth minerals, as reported by the Japanese news agency Nikkei on Sunday.
The delegation will include officials from Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, along with representatives from major trading companies and the Japan Organization for Metals and Energy Security. They are scheduled to hold discussions with officials from Greenland's local government.
Greenland, an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark, has recently attracted growing international attention. In January, the U.S. administration revealed that President Donald Trump was considering options to acquire the island, raising concerns among European NATO allies before the matter moved into diplomatic channels.
Greenland holds significant strategic value due to its geographic location in the Arctic region and its promising reserves of rare earth minerals. These minerals are essential for critical industries including advanced technology, electric vehicles, renewable energy turbines, and defense equipment.
Japan’s initiative reflects the intensifying global competition to secure stable sources of strategic minerals amid rising worldwide demand for rare elements necessary for the transition to a green economy and modern technologies.
