Kyiv Rocked by Heavy Airstrikes as Three-Day Truce Ends
Ukraine's capital was hit by intense Russian airstrikes early Tuesday, moments after a three-day humanitarian ceasefire expired.

Explosions rattled Kyiv early Tuesday as Russian forces launched a wave of intense airstrikes immediately after a three-day humanitarian truce expired, according to AFP. The bombardment shattered a period of relative calm, with air defense systems activated to intercept missiles and drones targeting critical infrastructure across the Ukrainian capital.
Timur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv's military administration, announced on Telegram that "hostile drones are currently flying over Kyiv. Please stay safe until the alert is lifted." The warning marked the first time air raid sirens have sounded in Kyiv since May 8.
Trump-Brokered Ceasefire Collapses
US President Donald Trump announced Friday that a ceasefire had been reached between Russia and Ukraine following his diplomatic efforts. In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated the truce would last three days—May 9, 10, and 11—coinciding with Russia's "Victory Day" celebrations. The agreement included a suspension of all military operations and a prisoner exchange of 1,000 captives from each side.
Both Moscow and Kyiv have traded accusations of violating the ceasefire. Ukraine blames Russia for undermining the truce with the latest aerial assaults, while Russia claims Ukraine carried out provocative operations, effectively collapsing the diplomatic push for de-escalation and returning the conflict to its previous intensity.
