Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly declared that water security constitutes a core element of national security for the country. Speaking in an interview with CNN Business, he addressed critical issues regarding regional resources and economic development.
Madbouly characterized the Nile River as a transboundary waterway governed by international law. He reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to pursuing diplomatic channels to resolve disputes surrounding the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD). The prime minister stressed that Cairo will continue to support peaceful negotiation processes for this file.
Turning to domestic economic matters, Madbouly detailed years of substantial spending on infrastructure projects. He explained that these investments were designed to secure a strong economic launchpad and create an environment conducive to attracting further investment.
The prime minister noted that such capital expenditure was deemed necessary for Egypt following the events of 2011. This strategic focus aims to stabilize the economy and foster long-term growth opportunities.
