On Wednesday, U.S. President Donald Trump declared that Ethiopia has dealt unfairly with Egypt concerning the Renaissance Dam. He made these remarks during a meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi on the sidelines of the Group of Seven summit in France.

According to Reuters, Trump said, "I understand that the Renaissance Dam affects Egypt and has caused a problem for it, and we are working to resolve it." In response, el-Sisi expressed his appreciation, stating, "We value your efforts to solve the crisis."

During their discussion, Trump expressed his desire to arrange a meeting between the leaders of Egypt and Ethiopia to settle the dispute over the Renaissance Dam. He noted, "We will discuss the Nile issue because the Nile has become less abundant than it should be. A dam was built in Ethiopia, and this dam causes significant problems for Egypt, which I am fully aware of."

Trump added, "I have been subjected to a lot of injustice from Ethiopia. We will assist with a small but very important dam project."

El-Sisi responded by saying, "I cannot overstate my respect for you due to your deep understanding of the difficulty of the dam issue for Egypt."

Reuters reported that the dam remains a source of political tension between Egypt and Ethiopia. The agency also mentioned that the two presidents would discuss trade issues.

Following the Gaza war, Trump has taken steps to address the Renaissance Dam crisis. Yesterday, el-Sisi participated in a session titled "Exiting Crises and Ensuring Stability in the Middle East," held as part of the G7 summit activities.
