Lawyer Shireen Ardakani announced on Tuesday that Iranian Nobel Peace Prize laureate Narges Mohammadi is "between life and death" after being transferred to the hospital last weekend.
Ardakani said in a press conference held by the Mohammadi Support Committee in Paris: "We have never felt such fear for Nargis's life; she may leave us at any moment."
Mohammadi, who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2023 in recognition of more than two decades of human rights activism, was arrested last December in the city of Mashhad in eastern Iran after criticizing the Iranian authorities.
This incident highlights the strict crackdown campaign carried out by the Iranian authorities internally and potential covert operations abroad to strike opposition voices, especially following the outbreak of American and Israeli attacks on Iran.
Recent reports issued by the Iranian opposition abroad revealed that a number of political prisoners in Iran have been subjected to repression and violence by the regime in recent days.
According to a report published by the American website "Al-Monitor," the Iranian authorities engaged in a widespread arrest campaign in several provinces such as Khuzestan, Mazandaran, Gilan, Lorestan, and Hormozgan, within a few hours after the start of the ceasefire on April 8 last.
