A new technology uses a miniature radar embedded inside a projectile, enabling it to detonate automatically upon nearing a target without requiring a direct hit. This mechanism increases destruction effectiveness by a factor of five to ten compared to conventional munitions.

According to reports, an Iranian "Shahed" drone valued at approximately $30,000 can be neutralized with five artillery rounds costing a total of no more than $11.

This contrasts sharply with traditional air defense missiles, where a Stinger missile costs around $430,000 and an AIM-120 missile reaches about $1 million in price.

The Wall Street Journal noted that this technology demonstrated its effectiveness during field tests conducted in the Philippines. This success has prompted several American defense companies, including Northrop Grumman, to expand production lines and make significant investments to meet rising demand.

The report suggests that this technology could represent a strategic shift in short-range air defense systems, particularly in regions facing increasing drone threats such as the Pacific and the Middle East.
