New York Climate Week 2026 Opens Amid Energy Crisis, 100,000 Attendees
New York Climate Week 2026 launched on 21 September with over 100,000 participants, focusing on accelerating climate action amid converging energy, economic, and geopolitical pressures.

New York Climate Week 2026 began on Sunday, 21 September, and runs for seven days across New York City. The event draws more than 100,000 annual participants, including government officials, business leaders, civil society representatives, scientists, and policy experts.
Organisation and institutional framework
The Climate Group — an international non-profit organisation active for over two decades in advancing climate action through business and government leadership — organises the week. It takes place in coordination with the United Nations General Assembly and convenes decision-makers and specialists who shape capital flows, policy directions, and market dynamics across sectors and regions.
Twelve thematic pillars and daily programming
This year’s programme centres on 12 core themes: energy and electricity; finance and clean growth; technology and artificial intelligence; industry and supply chains; nature and oceans; food and agriculture; health and climate; buildings, infrastructure, and transport. Discussions aim to spotlight actionable ideas, concrete decisions, and cross-sector partnerships that advance the global transition to a low-carbon economy and a more secure future.
The official schedule begins on 21 September with an opening ceremony featuring prominent climate leaders from business, government, and civil society. Mainstage sessions, keynote addresses, and panel discussions will examine the world currently being built — alongside dedicated sessions on the global energy crisis, worldwide transitions, and energy efficiency.
On 22 September, activities include The Hub Live events plus sessions on sustainable finance, technology, food systems, cities, and energy. The 23rd focuses on climate opportunities in food, technology, and other sectors. On 24 September, major announcements, statements, and strategic insights will be delivered. Artificial intelligence and field visits dominate the agenda on 25 September. The 26th blends art, entertainment, and community-based activities. The week concludes on 27 September with events addressing environmental protection and green finance.
Interlocking crises and operational challenges
The energy crisis coincides with supply chain disruptions that raise costs and delay deliveries. At the same time, climate change impacts — including extreme heatwaves and flooding — intensify existing pressures and expose longstanding vulnerabilities. Organisers state these challenges are interconnected and mutually reinforcing, making it harder to sustain momentum on climate progress.
Discussions therefore emphasise scaling up the pace and scale of climate transformation at a time when economic, climatic, and geopolitical stresses are increasingly overlapping.
Energy efficiency, investment, and capital mobilisation
Conversations include accelerating energy efficiency, highlighting corporate investments in energy efficiency, electricity, cooling, resilience, and emissions reduction — even amid political uncertainty and competing economic priorities.
The event also addresses the need to mobilise capital at scale for climate action, healthcare, and child welfare. This aims to close the gap between climate pledges and the actual volume of capital deployed to implement them, using innovative and blended financial instruments that connect investors with investable projects.
Broadening the scope: industry, electrification, and systemic design
Additional topics span clean industry, electrification, forests, buildings, and architectural interior design under climate change. Discussions also cover resource circularity and coexistence between human and non-human systems.
Participating organisations include Siemens, Trane Technologies, BCG, Fortescue, Nike, Daikin, AstraZeneca, Salesforce, Unilever, and Pfizer — alongside international institutions, civil society organisations, research bodies, and media outlets.
Organisers stress that the significance of New York Climate Week 2026 extends beyond setting climate commitments. Its central purpose is translating ambition into tangible actions and real-world investments — especially within a global context where the energy crisis intersects with economic strain, supply chain instability, and escalating climate impacts.
