North Korean Leader Oversees Weapons Tests and Calls for Lethal Defense Policy

North Korea's leader, Kim Jong Un, supervised key weapons tests on Thursday as part of the country's efforts to modernize its missile program, the Korean Central News Agency reported.

Kim stated that the weapons test results demonstrate technological progress aimed at strengthening North Korea's offensive capabilities along the border with South Korea. He emphasized that Pyongyang continues to develop its military systems based on a deterrence strategy that relies on maintaining an effective offensive force.

He added that the new weapons systems are designed to target military and critical infrastructure within South Korea, including airports, ports, and energy facilities, to enhance the operational capabilities of North Korean forces.

Kim described the country's defense policy as building a "lethal and destructive offensive posture" to ensure deterrence against any adversary. He noted that keeping "enemies in a constant state of anxiety" is a fundamental pillar of Pyongyang's deterrence strategy.

The agency reported that the tests included an upgraded version of a 24-tube multiple rocket launcher system with 240-millimeter caliber rockets, tactical ballistic missiles, and a 155-millimeter self-propelled howitzer.

The upgraded rocket launcher platform features a precision self-guidance system and has a firing range of up to 90 kilometers, according to the report.

Kim expressed satisfaction with the test outcomes, stating that Pyongyang aims to achieve automation, long-range missile launch capability, and "extreme precision" in its weapons programs.

He further emphasized that the objective is to defend the country's southern borders, clearly referring to the border with South Korea.

North Korea continues to update its tactical and conventional arsenal, pledging to deploy these near the border with its southern neighbor.
