Political Analysts Debate Responsibility for Damascus Explosion
Political analyst Hamza Al-Muhaimid and military expert Brigadier General Ahmad Rahal discuss the possible perpetrators behind the Damascus explosion amid differing views.
Political analyst Hamza Al-Muhaimid and military expert Brigadier General Ahmad Rahal have examined the circumstances surrounding the explosion that shook Damascus, presenting varied assessments regarding the likely parties responsible.
Al-Muhaimid rules out the involvement of the Islamic State organization in the attack, suggesting instead that remnants of the former regime are linked to the incident. He notes the timing coincides with trials of prominent figures and interprets the explosion as a message indicating that these groups remain capable of carrying out operations within the capital.
Brigadier General Ahmad Rahal, on the other hand, considers all possibilities still open, ranging from former regime elements and Iranian militias to the Islamic State and extremist factions. He highlights that the widespread presence of uncontrolled weapons complicates the security situation.
Rahal also addresses the regional dynamics, asserting that Israel is attempting to compensate for recent setbacks by escalating tensions in southern Syria. He adds that an upcoming NATO summit could potentially pave the way for new understandings among Washington, Ankara, and Damascus.
