Russian President Vladimir Putin reaffirmed on Wednesday that Russia remains a dependable supplier of energy even as tensions escalate in the Middle East. He underscored the energy sector as a key driver of economic cooperation between Russia and China.
Putin made these remarks during discussions with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing. He described the energy collaboration between the two nations as a fundamental pillar, noting that Russia continues to fulfill its role as a reliable supplier while China acts as a responsible consumer.
Arriving in Beijing on Tuesday for a two-day visit spanning May 19 and 20, Putin met with Xi to review bilateral relations and exchange views on international and regional issues of mutual concern.
The agenda prominently featured cooperation in the oil and gas sectors. Officials also discussed recent developments regarding the "Power of Siberia 2" gas pipeline project, a major strategic energy link between Russia and China.
This pipeline is considered one of the most significant initiatives enhancing energy connectivity between the two countries, reflecting their ongoing commitment to deepening energy ties.
