Nigel Farage's Reform UK party won control of Havering Council for the first time, while Labour suffered heavy losses.

Nigel Farage's Reform UK party has secured a historic victory in local elections, taking control of Havering Council in London for the first time in its history. The result marks a significant breakthrough for the party, which managed to win seats in areas traditionally held by both the Conservatives and Labour.
Farage described the outcome as a "real historic shift in British politics," noting that his party is winning one in every three seats up for grabs. The victory in Havering is seen as a major milestone for the party, which has been gaining momentum in recent months.
Prime Minister and Labour leader Keir Starmer acknowledged the results were "very difficult" for his party, accepting full responsibility for the losses. Speaking at Kingsdown Methodist Church in west London, Starmer said: "The results are difficult, and there is no escaping the truth. We have lost some fantastic Labour representatives across the country, and that hurts. I take responsibility. When voters send a message like this, we must think and we must respond."
Starmer added that voters are frustrated because they do not see the change his party promised, despite understanding the tough economic and international challenges. He stressed the need for Labour to learn from the electoral message.
Reports have emerged of internal tensions within Labour. The Times newspaper claimed that Energy Secretary Ed Miliband privately urged Starmer to set a timeline for his resignation. Starmer denied this, insisting Miliband supports him.
