Romania intercepted and destroyed a drone within its airspace on Saturday, marking the second consecutive day of such an event, according to official statements. This incident is the second of its kind since the onset of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Since 2022, Romania, a NATO member bordering Ukraine, has experienced repeated incursions by drones, some of which have crashed on Romanian territory.

The drone that entered Romanian airspace illegally was intercepted at 8:34 a.m. local time (5:34 a.m. GMT), as announced by Defense Minister Radu Mirețea.

The drone was downed approximately 9.6 kilometers west of Sfântu Gheorghe in the Danube Delta near the Ukrainian border.

On his Facebook page, Mirețea stated, "National Defense Ministry radars detected the drone entering our airspace at 8:22 a.m., and it was shot down a few minutes later by a Romanian F-16 fighter jet."
