Russian Drone Attack on 'Shahed' Aircraft Closes Orlivka Border Crossing Between Ukraine and Romania

The Ukrainian Border Guard Service announced today the temporary closure of the Orlivka international ferry crossing on the border with Romania following a Russian drone attack using Shahed drones during the night hours.

The agency stated the attack targeted a building inside the crossing and other sites, causing fires that broke out before firefighting teams managed to bring them under control; however, Ukrainian authorities did not provide details in their statement regarding the extent of damage or any injuries.

According to the Ukrainian Border Guard, passenger and vehicle traffic through the Orlivka crossing has been temporarily suspended, and the Romanian side has been informed about the attack and the measures taken.

The agency explained that transit movements are being redirected to other border crossings, urging travelers to consider the temporary closure when planning their passage across the Ukrainian border.

Ukrainian authorities confirmed that the Orlivka crossing had previously been targeted in Russian attacks, amid ongoing targeting of infrastructure and locations near the Ukrainian border.

The latest attack comes days after Russian forces targeted the Vinohradivka international land crossing with Moldova using a Shahed drone during the night of August 24–25.

The Orlivka crossing is one of the key transit points between Ukraine and Romania, relying on ferry services to transport passengers and vehicles across the Danube River; thus, any disruption significantly affects cross-border movement and trade.
