Russia Targets Supply Artery: Strikes on Two Ukrainian Ships and Izmail Port

The Russian Ministry of Defense announced today, Monday, that its forces targeted two cargo ships and the port of Izmail, as well as a logistics and supply center, during strikes aimed at logistical infrastructure in Ukraine.

The ministry stated that the attacks hit facilities it claimed were used for storing and transporting military supplies, along with transport routes and means linked to delivering equipment to Ukrainian forces.

Izmail port, located on the Danube River in southwestern Ukraine’s Odessa region, is one of the main ports used for transporting Ukrainian grain and goods, becoming a crucial export route since shipping activity across the Black Sea declined due to the war and Russian attacks.

Ukrainian riverine ports, including Izmail, have faced repeated Russian attacks throughout the conflict, while other strikes have targeted infrastructure associated with export and transit corridors in the region, increasing pressure on Ukrainian trade routes.

The announced strike comes as mutual attacks between Moscow and Kyiv intensify, with Russia stepping up aerial assaults on Ukrainian areas, while Ukraine, in turn, has carried out widespread drone attacks on targets inside Russia, including the Moscow region and energy and transportation facilities.
