Russian Soldier Killed in Sevastopol Bombing; Suspect Identified as Margarita Ryut

A Russian Defense Ministry serviceman was killed in an explosion in Sevastopol, the Federal Security Service (FSB) Directorate for Crimea and Sevastopol confirmed in a statement reported by the TASS news agency.

The suspect and her alleged role

The FSB statement identified the perpetrator as a woman born in 1994 who acted under instructions from Ukrainian intelligence agencies. Authorities stated she had been detained and was undergoing interrogation.

Location and method of attack

The blast occurred in a park on Stolitovskogo Street, according to the Telegram channel “112.” Investigators assessed that the explosive device was concealed either in a trash bin or beneath a bench. The suspect reportedly waited for the soldier to pass near the bench before detonating the bomb remotely.

Identity and confession claims

The Telegram channel “Mash” reported that the detained individual is Margarita Ryut, a resident of Sochi. Mash asserted that Ryut confessed to carrying out the attack and stated she received payment in cryptocurrency.

Separate incident: Fatal blast during bomb disposal

Earlier on Thursday, Mikhail Razvozhayev, head of the Russia-administered Crimean region, announced that five people were killed while attempting to defuse an explosive device in Sevastopol—the largest city in the Russian-controlled Crimean Peninsula.

Razvozhayev, in a statement cited by Reuters, specified that four members of the emergency services’ explosive ordnance disposal unit and one security guard were engaged in debris removal following a Ukrainian drone strike on the city when the explosion occurred.
