The Financial Times reported that the United States has requested oil tankers passing through the Strait of Hormuz to sail only during specified times to ensure military protection, following Iran's escalation of attacks on ships sailing at night.

The U.S. has offered aerial protection since May for vessels wishing to navigate a route along the coast of Oman on the southern side of the strait.

The newspaper, citing emails sent by the U.S. Maritime Coordination Center to maritime advisors, stated that the window for ship protection has been reduced to two fixed time periods daily since the start of September.
