Search of Ilhan Omar's Home Part of Ongoing Federal Criminal Investigation

Federal agents searched the home of U.S. House Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar on Monday morning as part of a criminal investigation, according to people familiar with the matter.

These individuals stated that the search was conducted by agents from Homeland Security Investigations. Further details about the investigation were not immediately clear.

The Department of Justice said in a statement on Monday that Homeland Security Investigations agents executed a judicially authorized search warrant obtained by the department in the Washington D.C. area, but provided no other details.

The department said: "This enforcement action is part of an ongoing federal criminal investigation."

Omar (44 years old) represents Minnesota's 5th District, which includes the city of Minneapolis.

She was first elected to the House in 2018 and became known as a member of a group called "The Squad," a group of lawmakers who gained prominence for their progressive views and strong opposition to the Republican president.
