On Wednesday, Syrian Foreign Minister Asad Shibani discussed with his American counterpart Marco Rubio the trajectory of bilateral relations between Damascus and Washington and ways to develop them, amid the positive momentum these relations have recently witnessed.

During a phone call with Rubio, Shibani expressed Syria's appreciation for the U.S. steps related to lifting sanctions imposed on it.

Shibani emphasized the need to continue joint efforts to complete technical and operational measures, ensuring that the political decision translates into tangible and practical impacts on economic and banking sectors.

The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that both sides stressed the importance of supporting Syria in its paths toward stability and economic growth, and addressed regional developments and Damascus’s role in enhancing political and economic stability in the region.

The two ministers also agreed to continue consultations and coordination on issues of mutual interest, serving the interests of both countries and supporting regional security and stability.

In August, Rubio announced the removal of Syria’s designation as a state sponsor of terrorism, following the expiration of the 45-day congressional notification period, while also noting the lifting of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham’s designation from the global terrorist entities list under a special classification.

Rubio said in a post on the platform "X" that these measures represent a new historic step taken by U.S. President Donald Trump to open the way for the Syrian people toward prosperity.
