Shocking US Condition for Argentina: Keep Javier Milei to Unlock Billions in Dollars
US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau stated that the Trump administration aligns with Argentina under President Javier Milei more than any other country, linking continued financial support to Milei's re-election.

US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau said on Thursday that "no country in the world" aligns with President Donald Trump's administration as much as Argentina does under President Javier Milei, who holds an extreme liberal orientation.
Landau stated during a press conference in Buenos Aires with Argentine Foreign Minister Pablo Quirno, "No country in the world has this level of alignment with us like the government of Argentina."
Landau's stance came two days after statements by US Ambassador to Buenos Aires Peter Lamelas, which had a strong impact in Argentina, clearly linking Washington's support to Milei's re-election at the end of 2027, according to "AFP".
Lamelas said at an energy forum in Neuquén, southern Argentina, "We support this government, Milei's government, and the Argentine people if they take the right direction, the right, not the left."
He added, "We are prepared to continue funding from the United States beyond 2027 if Argentina continues moving forward, and absolutely not backward," referring to investment projects worth up to $20 billion without going into details.
In response to questions about these conditions, Landau said on Thursday that he is "very impressed with the current government in Argentina because it provided the conditions for a new golden era for this country and rolled out the red carpet for foreign investment," in his words.
For his part, the Argentine Foreign Minister said, "Ambassador Lamelas constantly indicates that his mission is for the Argentine government to be re-elected next year, and this is a goal we share with him."
The Trump administration provided support in October 2025 for Argentina's economy and its peso currency, which is being hit by financial turmoil ahead of important midterm elections for Milei.
During his visit, Landau announced that the United States will fund a $15 million program to help Argentina establish a cybersecurity operations center, according to a statement issued by the US Embassy.
Quirno reported that US Vice President JD Vance will visit Argentina in November.
