British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said he welcomes progress toward an agreement between the United States and Iran, Reuters reported. He also said it is necessary that Iran never be allowed to manufacture a nuclear weapon.

Talks over the Strait of Hormuz

Starmer said there is a need for an agreement that ends the war and allows the Strait of Hormuz to be opened. He added that Britain will work with its international partners to seize the moment and reach a long-term diplomatic solution, in his words.

At the same time, Iran's Tasnim news agency earlier disclosed the main terms of the proposed deal between Washington and Tehran, whose fate is expected to be decided by US President Donald Trump, either by approval or by rejection. The agency, which is affiliated with the Revolutionary Guard, said Washington could commit during the negotiations to lifting or suspending the oil sanctions imposed on Tehran, allowing Iran to sell its oil during this period without the restrictions tied to sanctions.

US comments on a deal

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said there is "good news" about the Strait of Hormuz that could be announced in the next few hours. He added that "some progress" had been made over the past 48 hours on the outlines that could perhaps resolve the Strait of Hormuz crisis.

Rubio said President Donald Trump remains committed to the principle of not allowing Iran to possess a nuclear weapon. He had also pointed to a "chance" for Iran to agree soon, and even later on Saturday, to conclude a deal with the United States to end the war in the Middle East.

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard has said it supports the course of negotiations with America.
