Syria Prepares to Launch First Direct Flight Between Damascus and Amsterdam
The Syrian General Authority of Civil Aviation announced plans to start direct flights between Damascus and Amsterdam in early July.

The Syrian General Authority of Civil Aviation and Air Transport is finalizing preparations to launch the inaugural direct flight connecting Damascus and Amsterdam during the first week of July.
Omar Al-Hasri, the head of the authority, expressed gratitude in a post on X on Sunday to Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Sheibani and his team for their oversight of the matter. He described this achievement as the result of continuous national efforts combined with extensive technical, legal, and diplomatic work.
Al-Hasri also indicated that Amsterdam will not be the only European destination served directly, noting ongoing efforts to open additional routes as part of a broader plan to expand the network of air travel and strengthen Syria’s international presence.
Earlier, on Saturday, the General Authority announced that the UAE-based airline, Air Arabia, will commence regular direct flights between Sharjah and Aleppo starting from July 4. Additionally, on Friday, it was announced that the Romanian airline Dan Air will begin operating scheduled direct flights between Bucharest and Aleppo from July 1.
These developments signify Syria’s gradual reintegration into the European and international air transport network.
