Iran's Mehr News Agency reported on Tuesday that the final text of the potential memorandum of understanding with the United States is still under discussion in Tehran, and no official response has been sent to Washington "so far."

The agency added that the exchange of messages and notes between the two sides continues through the Pakistani mediator, but a final formula has not yet been reached.

"Mehr" quoted a source close to the Iranian negotiating delegation as saying, "Our position is based on reversible measures and concrete, practical steps," adding that "due to past experiences, we seek to ensure the achievement of real gains."

The Iranian source claimed that "Washington fears war," while his country feels "fear of the agreement."

The indirect negotiations between Iran and the United States have been witnessing, for about a week, a phase of "complex technical bickering," as both sides focus on amending the proposed texts without reaching a comprehensive agreement.

The spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Ismail Baqaei, said on Monday that the exchange of messages continues and has not reached a "final conclusion," while the Revolutionary Guard-affiliated "Tasnim" News Agency revealed that Tehran intends to introduce new amendments to the latest American text sent by President Donald Trump, which included stricter amendments regarding the fate of highly enriched uranium and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

The exchange of amendments is expected to continue in the coming days, amid warnings that any new military escalation could return the region to a circle of tension.
