Ten Syrian Internal Security Forces Members Wounded in Sweida Clashes

Ten personnel from Syria’s Internal Security Forces sustained injuries during clashes with local armed groups in the Druze-majority city of Sweida in southern Syria on Monday night, Syrian state media reported.

Clash casualties and escalation

The official Syrian television stated that the number of wounded security personnel rose to 10 following attacks by “outlaw groups” on checkpoints in the Tel Hadid area and along the Wulgha axis in western Sweida countryside. Earlier, the same broadcaster had reported four wounded.

Two civilians were killed in separate clashes between local armed groups and government forces west of Sweida city, according to two local security sources who spoke with Agence France-Presse.

Control status of Sweida

Sweida city and parts of the southern province remain under the control of local armed groups. These areas constitute the last territories outside the authority of Syria’s new governing authorities, which have sought to extend their control across the entire country following the ouster of former president Bashar al-Assad in 2024.

Key armed group identified

Among the local armed groups operating in the region is the “National Guard”, affiliated with Druze sheikh Hikmat al-Hajri.
