Third Widespread Power Outage Hits Eastern Libya Within Two Days

Eastern Libya has suffered its third widespread power outage in two days, according to technical sources from the General Electricity Company. The blackout affected the area spanning between the cities of Benghazi and Tobruk.

The sources reported that the outage followed the shutdown of the sixth unit at the North Benghazi power station, which has a production capacity of 240 megawatts. This was subsequently compounded by the failure of the station's fourth unit and the disconnection of the electrical interconnection line between Libya and Egypt.

These losses in production capacity caused instability in the electrical grid across the eastern region. Technical teams are currently working to restore the affected units and transmission lines to service.

On the same day, Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh, the head of Libya's Government of National Unity, criticized the management of the General Electricity Company. He announced the government's intention to take measures against the company and to launch a comprehensive investigation into its performance.
