An explosion occurred early Thursday at the Southern Giants Brigades camp located in the Al-Mamdarah area of Aden, the temporary capital, resulting in the deaths of 13 soldiers and injuries to dozens more.

Yemeni military sources informed that the injured sustained varying degrees of wounds, with seven soldiers critically and severely wounded. Civil defense teams continue to search beneath the debris for additional victims, having already found dismembered remains scattered around the site.

The sources added that several wounded soldiers lost limbs, particularly those connected to extremities. They emphasized that the reported casualty figures are preliminary and expected to rise.

According to these sources, all the victims are members of the Southern Giants Brigades. A large number of soldiers gathered near the blast site immediately after the explosion, which occurred in an ammunition depot. This initial blast triggered multiple subsequent explosions, leading to the current casualty count.

No official statement has yet been released by the relevant authorities clarifying the circumstances or causes of the explosion, nor providing detailed casualty statistics or the extent of material damage.

Meanwhile, Aden Governor Abdulrahman Shaikh has ordered an urgent investigation to determine the incident’s causes and circumstances. He requested a preliminary report outlining the investigation’s findings and necessary recommendations to reveal the reasons behind the explosion and to take appropriate measures.

Governor Shaikh stressed the importance of conducting the investigation with professionalism and transparency, holding accountable those responsible based on the results. He also highlighted the need to implement all necessary measures to ensure the safety of personnel and military facilities.

Additionally, according to a statement published on the official Facebook page of the Aden local authority, Governor Shaikh instructed relevant bodies to promptly provide medical care and treatment to the injured, mobilizing all available resources to guarantee they receive the required health services.
