Donald Trump denounces the United States' unilateral relationship with NATO, highlighting disproportionate US spending and lack of reciprocity.

President Donald Trump labeled the ongoing unilateral relationship between the United States and NATO as "ridiculous," making his remarks less than a week before the alliance’s summit in Ankara.
Trump posted on his social media platform Truth Social, stating, "We didn’t find them when we needed them," emphasizing that Washington’s relationship with NATO "is not reciprocal."
He has persistently criticized European allies for their stance regarding the conflict with Iran.
Earlier on Thursday, Trump asserted that the United States spends more on NATO than any other country by a wide margin, adding that Washington gains no benefits from this expenditure.
He detailed that the US invested $999 billion in NATO between 2014 and 2025, whereas the United Kingdom spent $90.5 billion, France $66.5 billion, Italy $48.8 billion, and Poland $44.3 billion. Trump also noted that other countries, including Germany, contribute significantly less.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump described this situation as "ridiculous."
