US President Donald Trump received a security briefing from the commander of US Central Command (CENTCOM), Admiral Brad Cooper, regarding new potential military plans against Iran, according to a report published by "Axios".
These plans aim to break the deadlock in nuclear negotiations or deliver a "final blow", amidst a fragile truce with Tehran.
The briefing includes options such as a wave of "short and powerful" strikes on Iranian infrastructure, taking control of part of the Strait of Hormuz with ground forces to restore commercial navigation, and securing highly enriched uranium stockpiles via special forces. General Dan Kane, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, attended the meeting, with a focus on pushing Iran towards flexibility in negotiations.
This comes after reports of Iran recovering its buried missiles, which increases pressure on Trump to make decisive decisions before his anticipated visit to China. The White House has not issued an official comment, but the plans reflect Washington's seriousness in confronting Iranian escalation.
A senior official in the Trump administration said on Thursday evening that hostilities between the United States and Iran have "ended", for reasons related to the War Powers Act.
The official added, "Both sides agreed to a two-week ceasefire starting Tuesday, April 7, and it was later extended.. No exchange of fire has occurred between US armed forces and Iran since Tuesday, April 7."
President Trump had said during an interview with "Newsmax" channel broadcast today, Friday, that his country's war on Iran had effectively ended, but he wants to achieve a "bigger victory margin."
Trump said: "We have already won the war, but I want a bigger victory margin." This statement comes days after War Secretary Pete Hegseth announced that the naval blockade on Iranian ports will continue "as long as necessary", with operations expanding to include the Indian and Pacific Oceans.
