President Donald Trump held firm on his position regarding the confrontation with Iran, expecting the conflict to end immediately after the midterm elections, and accused Tehran of betting on a political shift in Washington.

Trump emphasized that preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons remains the top priority, amid ongoing tensions and continued clashes.

This comes as sources revealed that senior advisors to Trump believe the war with Iran could extend beyond the end of the current presidential term, according to The Wall Street Journal.

In an interview with Fox News, Trump said Iranians believe Democrats would practically allow them to possess nuclear weapons; however, they will not obtain such weapons.

He added: "Iran's missile capabilities have been largely destroyed, and it is now difficult for them to produce more; they continue fighting with great difficulty and are in deep trouble, but they can still launch some missiles."

He went on: "We have eliminated Iran's nuclear capabilities; if they had possessed a nuclear weapon, they would have destroyed Israel and the Middle East and targeted American cities," he said.
