US President Donald Trump says he will work to release all political prisoners in Venezuela, expressing confidence in acting President Delcy Rodriguez.

US President Donald Trump declared on Tuesday that he would push for the release of every political prisoner in Venezuela, voicing strong confidence in the country’s acting president, Delcy Rodriguez. “We will work to get them all out,” Trump told reporters as he prepared to depart for China, according to AFP. “I tell you, Delcy (Rodriguez) is doing a tremendous job. The Venezuelan people are happy with what is happening.”
Rodriguez enacted an amnesty law earlier this year, following the arrest of former Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro by the US military in early January. That measure secured the release of hundreds of political detainees.
Non-governmental organizations have previously reported that roughly 500 political prisoners remain behind bars in Venezuela, despite the amnesty initiative.
