Trump: Ready for "Strong Military Action" if Talks with Iran Fail

US President Donald Trump said Monday he decided to suspend US strikes on Iran to give negotiations another chance, but stressed he may order a return to expanded military operations if diplomacy fails.

The current negotiations focus on a new agreement that would reopen the Strait of Hormuz and restart talks on a comprehensive nuclear deal.

The talks are mainly conducted between Iran and Oman, but Qatar, Pakistan, Egypt, and Trump's envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are actively participating.

Trump added: "We are having very deep talks with Iran. If these talks don't succeed, we will return to very strong military action," according to the Axios website.

Asked how long he wants to give diplomacy, the US president said: "There isn't much time. Either things go quickly or they don't go at all."

Trump asserted that Iran wants to make a deal, noting that oil prices fell and the stock market rose after he stopped the attacks.

The US president is scheduled to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House on Tuesday.

Trump said: "I will talk to Bibi about the fact that if I weren't president, Iran would now have nuclear weapons and Israel would have been destroyed," according to his expression.
