Trump says his first request to Xi Jinping will be to open Chinese markets to American products.

President Donald Trump announced Wednesday that his first request to Chinese President Xi Jinping during their upcoming meeting will be to open China’s markets to American goods. The demand was laid out in a post on his Truth Social platform.
“I will ask President Xi (Jinping), a leader of exceptional stature, to ‘open’ China so that these geniuses (referring to the American business delegation accompanying Trump) can unleash their capabilities and help elevate the People’s Republic of China to a higher level,” Trump wrote. He added: “Within a few hours, I will make this my first request. I have never seen or heard of an idea that could be more beneficial for our two great nations.”
Trump and Xi are set to meet in Beijing for what will be the first U.S. presidential visit to China in years. The trip was originally scheduled for March 31 to April 2 but was postponed due to developments related to Iran. U.S. data indicates the White House views the talks with Beijing as an opportunity to pressure China on issues Washington considers influential in the balances of war, sanctions, and energy, particularly given China’s economic and political ties with both Moscow and Tehran.
