Trump to Impose New Sanctions on Canada Over Wildfire Smoke

Former U.S. President Donald Trump stated he has decided to impose new sanctions on Canada, attributing the move to “wildfire smoke” drifting across the border and degrading air quality in the United States.

Speaking to reporters aboard the presidential aircraft Air Force One, Trump confirmed: “Yes, I have decided to impose sanctions on Canada because of the smog caused by forest fires.”

Trump previously threatened to levy tariffs on Canada over smoke from massive wildfires that swept across the country. He intends to add “Canadian wildfire smoke” to the list of tariffed items, according to a video report by Erem News.

He accused Canadian authorities of “deliberate neglect of essential fire prevention measures,” which he claimed resulted in billions of dollars in losses to the United States.

Trump did not specify the exact nature of the forthcoming sanctions, only pledging to announce them soon.

He placed responsibility on the Canadian government for the dense smoke that blanketed large parts of the U.S. Midwest and Northeast, causing a sharp decline in air quality levels.

U.S. authorities issued public health warnings in response to the smoke waves, advising residents—particularly the elderly, children, and those with respiratory conditions—to remain indoors as the fires’ impact extended beyond Canadian borders.
