US President Donald Trump said the suspect arrested after attempting to storm the White House Correspondents' Dinner wrote an anti-Christian statement, describing him as "clearly very disturbed."
US President Donald Trump said on Sunday that the suspect arrested after attempting to storm the White House Correspondents' Dinner, which he was attending, wrote an anti-Christian statement.
Trump said in a phone call with Fox News, "When you read his statement, you will find that he hates Christianity," describing the attacker as "clearly very disturbed."
He announced that the suspect was stopped by law enforcement and did not get close to the hall where the event was held, claiming that the shooting incident now proves the need for a new ballroom at the White House.
US authorities believed the suspect had intended to target senior administration officials, according to what Attorney General Todd Blanche said on Sunday.
Blanche told CBS News that based on preliminary information, investigators believe the man "was targeting members of the administration."
He noted that the suspect "is not actively cooperating" with the investigation, and likely traveled to Washington by train from Los Angeles via Chicago.
