Trump's Nuclear Deal Condition on Saudi-Israeli Normalization Was Uncoordinated with Riyadh

An informed source revealed that US President Donald Trump's announcement linking the normalization of relations between Saudi Arabia and Israel as a condition for implementing the nuclear agreement with the United States was not coordinated in advance with Riyadh.

The source, who requested anonymity, stated that Saudi Arabia was unaware of Trump's intention to connect the nuclear file with relations with Israel.

On Thursday, the US president posted on the Truth Social platform that approval of the nuclear agreement signed between the energy ministries of the two countries "is entirely linked to Saudi Arabia joining the very respected and successful Abraham Accords."

Trump also emphasized that the program would not include any enrichment of nuclear materials, stressing that the United States does not oppose "civilian facilities not based on enrichment."

These remarks came hours after the United States and Saudi Arabia signed a peaceful nuclear cooperation agreement known as the "123 Agreement," along with a bilateral safeguards agreement.

The US Department of Energy described this step as establishing "the legal foundation for a partnership spanning decades and worth billions of dollars, supporting a number of priority economic and strategic goals, including nuclear non-proliferation."

Saudi officials have repeatedly affirmed that Riyadh does not intend to normalize relations with Israel without a political path leading to the establishment of a Palestinian state.

Following Trump's post, the American website Axios reported that there are no indications that the text of the nuclear agreement links its implementation to normalization of relations with Israel.
