UK Maritime Trade Operations Reports Tanker Struck by Unidentified Projectile off Oman’s Lima

The UK Maritime Trade Operations Authority confirmed it received reports of two separate incidents involving tankers near Oman’s northern coast. The first occurred approximately 20 nautical miles northeast of the Omani city of Khasab, where the vessel’s master reported hearing an explosion in close proximity. According to Reuters, the tanker and its entire crew were unharmed.

Second incident near Lima

A second, more serious event took place 11 nautical miles northeast of Lima, a coastal settlement located on the Musandam Peninsula in the Sultanate of Oman. The UK Maritime Trade Operations Authority stated that a tanker was struck by an unidentified projectile at that location. The impact caused damage to the vessel’s engine room and resulted in a loss of control.

In a brief statement posted on its X account, the UK Maritime Trade Operations Authority said a security officer aboard the vessel reported the projectile strike. The authority confirmed the projectile damaged the engine room but added there were no reports of injuries among crew members or environmental damage.
