UK Plans to Deploy Destroyer to Secure Strait of Hormuz
Britain announced it will pre-position the HMS Dragon in the Middle East for a potential mission to secure the Strait of Hormuz when conditions allow.

The United Kingdom announced Saturday it will deploy the destroyer HMS Dragon, currently in the Mediterranean, to the Middle East in preparation for a mission in the Strait of Hormuz "when conditions permit."
A Ministry of Defence spokesperson stated that this pre-positioning of HMS Dragon is part of careful planning to ensure the UK is ready, within a multinational coalition jointly led by the UK and France, to secure the strait when conditions allow.
Shipping Crisis Deepens
Danish shipping giant Maersk has warned that the war between the United States and Iran has become a "new wake-up call" for global trade, with expectations of worsening fallout in the coming months due to energy disruptions and broken supply chains.
Approximately 1,500 ships remain stranded in Gulf waters due to the ongoing crisis in the Strait of Hormuz since the outbreak of war in the Middle East, according to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) on Thursday.
Arsenio Dominguez, Secretary-General of the UN-affiliated IMO, said during a speech in Panama: "Right now, we have about 20,000 crew members and around 1,500 ships trapped." He noted that maritime shipping carries more than 80% of all consumer products worldwide.
These trapped crew members "are innocent people doing their jobs every day for the benefit of other countries," Dominguez told industry leaders and IMO representatives, but they are "trapped due to geopolitical situations beyond their control."
