UK to Deploy Fighter Jets and Warship to Secure Strait of Hormuz
Britain announced plans to send Typhoon jets, a warship, and mine-hunting drones to a multinational mission safeguarding shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

Britain will contribute advanced military equipment to a multinational effort aimed at securing navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, the government announced Tuesday. The deployment includes autonomous mine-detection and clearance systems, Typhoon fighter jets, and a Type 45 destroyer, HMS Dragon, as part of a joint defensive initiative involving dozens of nations.
Defense Secretary John Healey stated that alongside allies, the mission would be "defensive, independent, and credible," emphasizing the UK's role in protecting one of the world's most critical maritime chokepoints. He confirmed the commitment of HMS Dragon, Typhoon aircraft, and advanced naval mine countermeasures, backed by new funding of £115 million to boost operational capabilities in the region.
Healey also revealed he participated in the first ministerial meeting of a coalition comprising 40 countries, describing the international coordination for the mission as "wide-ranging and highly ready."
