Thirteen people, among them a child, were injured in an overnight Ukrainian attack on residential buildings in the Russian border city of Bryansk, the regional governor said Thursday. Alexander Bogomaz, writing on Telegram, reported the strike targeted the Bezhitsky district, damaging two residential buildings, over 20 apartments, and roughly 40 vehicles.

The assault comes just before Russia’s planned unilateral ceasefire with Ukraine, set for May 8-9 to coincide with Moscow’s World War II Victory Day celebrations. Ukraine had proposed a ceasefire on May 6, a move Russia ignored, according to AFP.

Separately, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin stated Thursday that at least three drones “flying toward Moscow” were destroyed. In the Ukrainian city of Dnipro, one person was wounded in a Russian strike, according to an update from regional administration head Oleksandr Ganzha.

Earlier, Russia warned foreign diplomats in Kyiv that it would launch a “retaliatory strike” on the Ukrainian capital if Ukraine’s attacks disrupted Russia’s Saturday celebrations. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Russia on Wednesday of rejecting efforts to halt the fighting and save lives.
