US Army Confirms Patriot System Withdrawal from Erbil, Iraq

The US Army confirmed it has withdrawn Patriot air defense systems from Erbil, a city in northern Iraq, under an ongoing operation to reposition American forces and military equipment across the region.

A US official, speaking on condition of anonymity to Rudaw television network, stated that US Central Command continuously repositions US troops and equipment to other locations in support of assigned missions. The official added that the Department of Defense does not disclose operational details of such movements for security reasons.

Context of the Pentagon’s statement

The Pentagon’s confirmation followed media reports about the beginning of a US troop withdrawal from Erbil, the removal of Patriot systems, the future of air defense systems in the Kurdistan Region, and the status of aircraft involved in intercepting missiles during Iran’s recent attacks.

On the question of those aircraft, the US official said: “We have nothing to say at this time.”
