US Central Command said today that the US military destroyed six small Iranian boats and intercepted cruise missiles and drones launched by Tehran as part of an operation to ensure freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.

Admiral Brad Cooper, commander of US Central Command, said today, Monday, that the US military destroyed six small Iranian boats and intercepted cruise missiles and drones launched by Tehran, as part of a US operation aimed at ensuring freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
Cooper added that he "strongly advises" Iranian forces to stay away from US military sites during the operation.
He confirmed that the US blockade preventing ships from entering or leaving Iranian ports remains in effect, and that its results exceeded expectations.
He added that Iranian forces "targeted commercial ships and US military vessels with cruise missiles," noting that the results of the US military blockade on Iran "exceed expectations," according to Reuters.
He pointed out that the focus is currently on removing ships from the Strait of Hormuz, and over time, work will be done to bring ships into it.
Cooper stressed that his country "advises Iranian forces to stay completely away from US military assets."
In a related context, US Central Command stated that US Navy guided-missile destroyers crossed today from the Arabian Sea through the Strait of Hormuz and are currently operating in the Gulf.
US Central Command added: "US forces are actively assisting in efforts to restore commercial maritime traffic."
Meanwhile, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told Fox News that the United States is "opening" the strait.
He considered that the US military has "complete control" over the waterway, but will not open fire "unless the Iranians open fire on it."
