Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng will meet US officials in South Korea next week for trade talks ahead of a planned summit between Presidents Xi and Trump.

Trade negotiations between Chinese and American officials are scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday in South Korea next week. Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng will lead the Beijing delegation in discussions with US counterparts, state broadcaster CCTV reported Sunday.
The two sides will hold "consultations on shared trade issues," according to the official Chinese media report. The talks come just before an anticipated summit between Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump, set to take place in Beijing in mid-May.
This is not the first recent encounter between the two economic powers. In March, Chinese and American delegations met in Paris for trade discussions, as reported by the official Xinhua news agency. During that meeting, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Vice Premier He Lifeng addressed commercial matters between the world's two largest economies.
