US Envoy Tom Barrack Arrives in Baghdad to Convey Trump's Support for Al-Zaidi Government
US special envoy Tom Barrack reached Baghdad to meet Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi and discuss political and security matters, delivering President Trump's backing for the new government.

Tom Barrack, the US special envoy to Iraq, arrived in Baghdad on Monday to meet with Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi and hold talks with officials on various political and security issues.
On his X platform account, Barrack stated, "I am pleased and honored to return to Baghdad once again, where I meet the distinguished US embassy team led by Chargé d’Affaires Joshua Harris."
He added, "Today, I will meet with Prime Minister Al-Zaidi to convey President Donald Trump’s support for his government and to discuss our partnership within a new direction aimed at building a fruitful American-Iraqi relationship."
On May 31, Trump appointed Barrack as special presidential envoy to Syria and Iraq, describing the move as part of strengthening strategic cooperation with the governments of Damascus and Baghdad.
Trump said via the Truth Social platform, "Barrack will continue in his role as ambassador to Turkey and will operate with full support from the US State Department."
Al-Zaidi officially assumed his position on May 16 after receiving parliamentary confidence. He pledged to confront challenges "based on faith in the capabilities and patience of Iraqis, turning crises into opportunities and setbacks into milestones, to make a difference by enhancing services, building solid institutions, and advancing Iraq towards governance and e-government."
Al-Zaidi received an official invitation from Trump to visit Washington, but the date of the visit has not yet been set. Political and technical preparations continue between the two sides, with expectations of high-level meetings at the White House, Congress, and US decision-making circles, as well as economic and investment meetings with major American companies.
