According to a statement from the Southern Command: "On June 3, under the direction of US Southern Command Commander General Francis L. Donovan, the Joint Task Force (Southern Spear) executed a lethal military strike on a ship affiliated with designated terrorist organizations."
The statement added that intelligence verified the ship was navigating known drug trafficking routes in the eastern Pacific Ocean and was involved in drug smuggling activities.
The Southern Command concluded its statement by confirming that "two terrorists were killed during this operation and that no US military personnel were injured."
