The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed the execution of military strikes against Iranian targets, describing the action as a response to a drone attack on a commercial ship transiting the Strait of Hormuz.

CENTCOM stated on Friday that American aircraft targeted Iranian locations used for storing missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles, in addition to coastal radar installations.

The statement detailed that the US strikes followed an Iranian attack on the Singapore-flagged cargo ship "MV Ever Lovely" as it departed the Strait of Hormuz near Omani shores on June 25.

The Central Command indicated that the Iranian assault involved a suicide drone, labeling it a clear violation of the ceasefire agreement and a threat to freedom of navigation and the secure flow of international trade through the vital maritime passage.

CENTCOM emphasized its ongoing coordination and protection of commercial vessel passage through the strait, affirming that US forces remain prepared to ensure full compliance with agreements established with Iran.

The US strikes occurred hours after President Donald Trump criticized the attack on the commercial vessel, stating that Iran firing on a ship in the Strait of Hormuz was completely unacceptable and should not have happened. Responding to a question about Iranian activities in the strait, Trump said, "You will know our response soon."

Following these remarks, Iranian state television reported hearing an explosion in the Taheriyeh area of Sirik city in southern Iran but did not specify the cause or provide further details.

Al Jazeera’s correspondent in Tehran, Omar Hawash, reported that Iranian media sources mentioned hearing three explosions in the Taheriyeh area, a port located in Sirik city within the Hormozgan province on Iran’s southern coast along the Strait of Hormuz.
