Scott Bessent arrived in South Korea for trade talks with China's vice premier before the Trump-Xi summit in Beijing.

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent landed in South Korea on Wednesday for trade discussions with Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng, setting the stage for a summit later this week in Beijing between the leaders of the world's two largest economies. The talks are expected to address a range of issues ahead of the Thursday-Friday meeting between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping.
According to a Tuesday report from "News 1" citing an Incheon Airport official, the discussions are scheduled to take place in an airport reception room.
American officials have indicated that the US and China are likely to agree on mechanisms to facilitate mutual trade and investment during the Beijing summit. China is expected to announce purchases including Boeing aircraft, agricultural products, and US energy goods, the officials said.
Beijing, for its part, is seeking a relaxation of US restrictions on advanced semiconductor exports. Chinese officials have also raised concerns about a proposed bill aimed at preventing the entry of critical chip-making equipment into China.
