The US ambassador to the EU warns that 25% tariffs on European cars are imminent unless Brussels quickly reaches a comprehensive trade agreement.

The United States will impose a 25% tariff on European automobiles if the European Union does not accelerate negotiations toward a comprehensive trade pact, according to US Ambassador to the EU Andrew Pazar. Speaking in an interview with Bloomberg, Pazar stated that without tangible progress, the levies are likely to be enforced soon.
Pazar expressed dissatisfaction with the previously announced July timeline for signing a deal, saying the White House does not consider that date sufficiently prompt. He added that the president is pushing for a much faster resolution.
Earlier this month, President Donald Trump declared his intention to impose a 25% duty on cars and trucks from the European Union, arguing that the bloc has failed to uphold its trade commitments with the United States.
Bernd Lange, chair of the European Parliament’s Committee on International Trade, later described the threatened tariffs as unacceptable. In March, the Financial Times reported, citing Lange, that the EU plans to introduce stringent conditions in any trade agreement with Washington—including a clause that would void the pact if the US imposes new tariffs on the bloc.
