Leavitt said at a press conference that "the left-wing cult of hatred against the president and everyone who supports him and works for him has caused injuries and deaths, and nearly did so again last weekend."
The gunman who attempted to storm the Correspondents' Association dinner being held at a Washington hotel was appearing in court Monday.
The White House announced Sunday that the suspect, identified by American media as Cole Thomas Allen (31), aimed to attempt to assassinate Trump and several senior administration officials during the annual dinner held Saturday.
In another matter, Leavitt said that President Trump discussed on Monday with his senior national security advisers a new Iranian proposal to reach a solution to the war between the two countries.
