Viral videos showing President Donald Trump apparently dozing during official gatherings prompted a response from the White House, which rejected the accusations by highlighting moments when the president’s eyes were open.

White House responds to allegations of Trump sleeping

On the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, the White House addressed the widespread videos suggesting Trump had fallen asleep, fueling online debate. The official account shared one such video, challenging the narrative that the president was merely blinking rather than dozing off. The Rapid Response team strongly criticized the claims.

The team stated, “His eyes are literally open in the clip you posted, you dumbass mouth-breathers,” directly replying to the video posted by the same user. That video’s caption read, “Trump appears to be completely passed out asleep during his 3 pm Oval Office announcement.”

In the video, Trump is seen sitting slightly sideways in his chair during the Oval Office meeting, where he announced significant investments in the US coal sector. Initially, his eyes appear closed, which many interpreted as sleeping, but he then opens his eyes and maintains a neutral expression.

Separately, Secretary of State Marco Rubio was questioned by Democratic Congressman Ted Lieu regarding reports of Trump sleeping during meetings. Rubio denied these claims, stating, “That’s false. That’s false. I’ve never seen him fall asleep. On the contrary, the guy doesn’t sleep, which is a big problem, because he calls me at 2 in the morning, he calls me at 5 in the morning, and you know, I like to sleep a little bit—maybe not 12 hours—but at least six… I don’t know what you’re talking about” (via The Daily Beast).
