Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Madrid on Wednesday to hold talks with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and other leaders, on the sidelines of the Ibero-American Summit, according to the Spanish government.
Sanchez will receive Zelenskyy on Thursday for his fifth visit to Spain, the same source said.
Also on the sidelines of the Ibero-American Summit on Thursday, the Ukrainian president will hold discussions with "a number of leaders to discuss the situation in his country and its global repercussions, as well as key challenges related to international peace and security."
After more than four years since the start of the Russia-Ukraine war, negotiations between Kyiv and Moscow mediated by Washington are scheduled to resume on November 10 and 11 in the United Arab Emirates.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who visited Berlin on Tuesday, said he hopes the talks will lead to a meeting with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.
The Ibero-American Summit opens on Wednesday in Madrid, with prominent attendance by Argentine President Javier Milei, known for his harsh criticism of the summit's host, Socialist Pedro Sanchez.
Alongside Milei, this thirtieth edition brings together other right-wing leaders from Latin America, including Chilean Jose Antonio Kast, Costa Rican Laura Fernandez, Bolivian Rodrigo Paz, and Honduran Nasry Asfura.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is attending in Madrid to participate in the summit.
In contrast, prominent left-wing figures in the region are absent, including recently re-elected Brazilian Luis Inacio Lula da Silva, Mexican Claudia Sheinbaum, and Venezuelan acting president Delcy Rodriguez.
